Teachers Tips by Cloontuskert N.S

4th April 2017

Name of school: Our school is called Cloontuskert N.S

Number of students : There are currently 52 children on roll.

How long is your school signed up to the WEEE Pledge programme?

In two short months, I’m proud to say our school collected a total of 97kg in used batteries. A huge thank you to the staff, parents and pupils who really got behind the initiative.

Do you send out information to let the parents know about the initiative?

Initially, an information leaflet was sent out to parents  giving them details of the programme and asking for their assistance. We advertised our involvement in the programme on our school website and reminder texts were also sent out. Posters and blue recycling boxes were displayed in a prominent position within the school.

Do you use the activity sheets on the WEEE Pledge website to help inform the kids about the environment?

The teachers found the resources on the Weee Ireland website most useful in teaching the children about the importance of battery recycling.

How do you motivate your students and what incentives were used?

The children were regularly reminded  and encouraged to bring in their used batteries. We also ran a competition between the classes to see which class could collect the most batteries.

How many green flags do you have?

Our school has 6 green flags, we are currently working toward receiving our seventh.
